How Do SSL Certificates Work?

Enter your domain

Once you’ve selected your SSL plan, enter your website domain name. You’ll need an active domain before your SSL Certificate can be issued and installed.

Install your SSL Certificate

If your website is hosted with Crazy Domains, our team can take care of the SSL installation for you. If you’re hosted elsewhere, you’ll first need to generate a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) from your hosting provider or server.

Enable HTTPS redirect

After installation, your website should be redirected from HTTP to HTTPS so visitors always access the secure version of your site. This is not applied by default, but we can assist if needed. Service charges may apply.

Your website is secured

Once your SSL Certificate is active, your website will load over HTTPS and display the padlock icon in the browser address bar. This shows visitors that their connection to your site is secure.

What is an SSL Certificate and How does it work?

An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate encrypts the connection between your website and your visitors, helping keep sensitive information secure. It uses both public-key and private-key encryption to safeguard personal information such as credit card numbers, passwords, and email addresses provided by users on the website. It also enables HTTPS and shows the padlock icon in the browser, giving customers more confidence in your site.
